GENERAL DESCRIPTION

These linguistic evaluation projects involve another aspect of translation - called localization - which helps to ensure that translations are suitable for the intended target audience. The process requires ordinary people to evaluate the translations and offer their opinions on the quality of the language used.
The original text has already been translated into the target language. Spectrum Translation's job is to help recruit participants for the projects. Anyone who is at least 18 years old, is native in the target language being evaluated and currently resides in the target country is welcome to apply.
Occasionally a medical condition is also required to participate. This is noted with each specific project description. Generally a range of ages and education levels and some geographic distribution within the target country are also desirable so that various segments of the population can be represented.
The process is as follows:
1. The participant will receive the texts by e-mail from the interviewer.
2. The participant will then review the questionnaire in his or her own time, making note of any language which is unclear or may be incorrect.
3. A telephone interview is held at a time convenient for the participant. Such interviews rarely go over an hour in length. The participant will be asked to paraphrase the text and offer suggestions for improvement. Only the person's native language is used for the process; no English or other language is required to participate (unless English is the language being evaluated).
4. Payment for participation is sent within a few weeks of the project's completion.

Payment information is not required immediately and may be provided after participation.
Any information you provide will of course be kept in the strictest confidentiality. A subject may, however, participate in up to three projects per year (for additional payment, of course), so information will be kept for future projects if you would like to take part in more than one project.
